6. Fireday/ Disorder Week/ Sea Season 1618

Thunder rumbled overhead as Bofrost ran headlong, jumping over jumbled rubble and ducking under protruding masonry. As he ran, he cast worried glances over his shoulder, half-expecting to be greeted by the sight of a skull creature in pursuit. How had things gone so wrong so quickly? He and his companions had made good progress into the ancient ruin, in search of their stolen cattle and revenge on the bandits that they thought had been responsible. True, he'd never encountered or heard tell of ducks, trolls and humans working together as bandits; but he of all people knew that the world is a strange place and that many things were possible. But then came the skull-creatures, appearing to grow out of the earth itself, each made from broken branches and moss surmounted by an ox skull. They seemed fragile, but their appearance had thrown their band into panic. At the first sight of a creature growing out of the ground close enough to touch, Randel had fled into the ruins. Yrsa had likewise disappeared, although to be fair Bofrost had lost sight of her as he scrambled atop the ruins to escape this new threat. He prayed to Orlanth that they were both safe, and that he'd be able to join with them soon.

But the skull-creatures weren't the only threat. They had been joined by a ghostly spirit creature, taking the form of a woman clad in floating robes as if a dream-thing made real. As Terrastal lost his footing upon the wall and fell, he was set upon by the skull-creatures. Bofrost hadn't seen the fight, but Terrastal's screams told their own story. Whilst he lay, close to death, the dream-weft came near and appeared to cast an enthralling spell upon him, so that he saw the skull creatures and dream-thing as friends and allies. A similar fate had befallen Finmast, and the last time Bofrost had seen them they were raving about a 'stone woman' and the 'great bounty' she offered to her followers. Bofrost had heard enough; he fled, planning to join with his remaining companions and return to free his friends from whatever magic bound their minds.
